The Synagogue in Wörlitz is built on the edge of Wörlitzer See lake. It was constructed in 1790, based on the Vesta Temple in Rome. In 1938 the National Socialists gutted the building as part of their purge on the Jewish communities across Germany. It was restored in 1948. Today the synagogue houses an exhibit on Jewish history, opened in 1988, and is a popular attraction in the town, close to the park.
