The State Theatre (Hessisches Staatstheater) in Wiesbaden was built at the request of Kaiser Wilhelm II between 1892 and 1894. It was designed by architects Fellner and Helmer. The building dominates the surroundings, and has a wonderful colonnade area with shops, built in 1839, and a Rococo entrance hall built in 1902. Inside are two theatres, one holding 1,041 seats, and the other 328. There is also a ‘Studio’ holding 89 seats. A full and varied schedule of shows of all varieties are shown throughout the year, with special emphasis on the Theatre Festival held each May.
