One of Zwickau’s main churches is the Katharinenkirche, or St. Katherine’s Church. It is a late Gothic hall-style building which was originally part of a Benedictine monastery on the site. It was built originally in 1219. The current building dates from the 1520s. It is worth stepping inside to see the church’s prized possession – an altar from the workshop of Lucas Cranach the Elder. It dates from 1534. There is also a statue by Breuer inside.
