The Mueritzeum in Waren is the oldest natural history museum in Mecklenburg Lower Pomerania. It was founded in 1866 to tell the story of the region and its landscape and environment. The formation of the landscape here, and in the neighbouring Müritz National Park is explained, and accompanied by examples of rocks and fossils. There is also a large cold water aquarium at the museum which is the largest in Germany. It displays all manner of water life. The museum has a small entrance fee and is open most days, year-round.
