Lucas Cranach the Elder spent his final days living in Weimar. The building in which he lived dates from 1549 and is situated on the Market Place. It is a Renaissance building. Cranach spent his time working in his studio here creating the famous altar piece for the parish church. He died her on 16th October 1553 aged 79 years. The house is not generally open to the public, but you can see his works in the church. The house is protected by UNESCO as part of the surrounding heritage site.
