Wiesbaden owes much of its existence to the town’s spa. The original Spa House, or Kurhaus, was constructed by Christian Zane in 1810. However, the building was replaced by Kaiser Wilhelm II with this wonderful Neo-Classical structure in 1907. On its exterior are the Wiesbaden coat of arms, with the phrase ‘Aquis Mattiacis’ – the Waters of the Mattaci. The building was restored in 1987 and today houses congresses, meetings, exhibitions and concerts. In the summer many open-air concerts and parties are held, which are advertised far and wide.
