The large double gateway tower in Xanten is known as the Klever Tor. Remarkably, this tower dates from the 14th century, and was part of the town’s medieval walls. Most of these have now been demolished, but the tower is standing strong. The tower has two gates, with a bridge (which used to be over a moat) at one side. It also has two circular towers. Sadly the upper part of the towers had to be reconstructed after World War 2. Today, part of the structure houses apartments.
