The Kahler Asten is the tallest peak in the Sauerland. It stands at 841 metres, and is usually covered in snow for a lot of the year. At the summit is an observation platform and hotel, built in 1884, which offers fantastic views across the surrounding countryside. There is a small entrance fee to get into the observation platform. The mountain is situated at the edge of Winterberg – the popular winter resort. There are plenty of ski lifts and ways to get up the mountain.
