Another museum in southern Wetzlar is the Imperial Chamber Court Museum (or Reichskammergerichtsmuseum). This former court was created by Maximilian I in 1495 as the highest court of the Holy Roman Empire German Nation. This institution brought fame to the town, and now this museum, opened in 1897, is situated in the building to chronicle its history and details. There are many documents and items of literature detailing this court, and also a research centre built into the museum. Open most days, with a small admission fee.
