Goethe spent time living and working in Weimar. In fact, despite being inspired by his home town of Frankfurt, he wrote his most famous play, Faust, here. His house was given to him by Duke Carl Augustus. It is here that he worked on the play. Today the house is a museum with many items associated with the man on display, plus exhibitions and other information on his life and works. Some other Enlightenment poets from Weimar are also given space in the museum.
