The Archaeological Park in Xanten occupies the site of the original settlement of Colonia Ulpia, dating from 100AD and one of the oldest in Germany. Here the town’s remains have been uncovered and built upon to create a full reconstruction of the town, including its inns, amphitheatre and harbour building (the water no longer flows to the area). For the Disney touch, toga-clad waiters serve Roman food at the inn, and shows are put on in the amphitheatre. The Roman bath ruins nearby have not been reconstructed, however.
