Starnberger See is a lake located 27km south of Munich’s centre, and is the closest lake to the city. It covers 57km square and has views of the Alps, which can be particularly stunning in fine weather. Visitors can enjoy many forms of recreation on and in the lake, including renting boats to explore, swimming, and guided boat tours. Around the lake are a series of footpaths and forests. Starnberg town alongside the lake has plenty of shops and cafes.
