The fantastic Schloss Hohentübingen towers over Tübingen. It has a grand gateway known as the Unteres Tor. The castle was built between 1507 and 1606 by the House of Wurttemberg, and still displays the coats of arms above the entrance. It has a central courtyard area. The castle today houses a museum which show several of the period rooms restored to their full glory, and many items from the time of the original owners. There is a small entrance fee. The castle is open year-round.
