Saabrücken’s Schloss (Castle) was badly damaged in World War 2 and lost much of its interior during remodelling in the 1980s, which created a modern glass structure out of the shell. Today, the basement of the castle houses the town’s history museum (Historisches Museum), which is open most days and has a small entrance fee. The museum tells the history of the Saarland, as well as Saabrücken itself. It has an exhibition on the area under the Third Reich.
