Trier’s Rheinisches Landesmuseum is the Rhine regional museum, which was opened in 1877, and is located close to the Kurfürstliches Palais. The museum displays all manner of exhibits on the history of the region, particularly focussing on the different eras – such as pre-history, Roman, Franconian and medieval. There are naturally many Roman relics and archaeological items on display, including a large mosaic from a local villa, and a large stone carving of a ship which once adorned a tomb dating from 220AD.
