Rosenheim is famous for its klepper, or kayaks. The most celebrated kayak made here is the KLEPPER-folding version which has been used in important expeditions such as the Germany-India expedition in 1923 by Karl Schott, the first Atlantic crossing in 1928 by Captain Romer and the expedition to the magnetic Northpole in 1985 by Arved Fuchs. The museum contains many of the original kayaks and other related articles such as tents and clothing worn by explorers. The Klepper company, established in 1906 was once the biggest employer of Rosenheim.
