The Church of Our Lady on the Hill (Hohnekirche) in Soest dates from the 12th century. It is a Protestant church built in a Romanesque style. Originally quite plain in décor, frescoes were added in the 13th century, of which much remains. There are also many works of art inside, and an altar named Passion from the 15th century. Also of note is the Scheibenkreuz cross which stands four metres high and is adorned with relics of the life of Christ. It dates from 1200.
