The Church of St. Paulin was built in the 12th century on the site of an older, smaller church building. It is a wonderful Rococo building, designed by Balthasar Neumann, who also worked on interior items such as the altar. The church was destroyed by the French army in 1674 but later rebuilt. St. Paulin, who was bishop in Trier long before the church was founded, was one of those to oppose Emperor Constantine II’s claims to be divine. Paulin died in Turkey in 358AD.
