The Church of St. Maximin was built on the burial site of the saint. It became one of four abbeys in Trier during the Middle ages. The current Romanesque and Gothic church was built on the site of earlier incarnations of the building. It was also remodelled in the 16th and 17th centuries. The original Carolingian wall paintings from the crypt are now located in the Rheinisches Landesmuseum. The church is still holding regular services. Visitors are encouraged to make a donation.
