The arch at the north end of Ludwigstraβe is know as the Siegstor, or Victory Gate. It was erected by Ludwig I as a monument to the Bavarian army. However, during World War 2 it was badly damaged and never properly restored. The inscription added to the south side translates to ‘Dedicated to the victory, destroyed in war, exhorting to peace’.
