Just to the south of Prien, close to lake Chiemsee, is the small town of Urschalling. The principal sight here is the Church of St. Jakobus, which dates from the 12th century. It is a fine example of a Romanesque building, and was also used as a monastery and convent in the past. Inside the whole building is covered with wall paintings from the 13th to 14th centuries, which draw many tourists, as well as pilgrims every year.
