The Residenz is located in the centre of the old town of Munich. It was the seat of power for the Bavarian dukes and kings for 500 years. They lived there until 1918 when revolting citizens forced the royals out of the Residenz, briefly forming the Bavarian Republic. Today the impressive building is a museum open to the public, with 130 rooms decorated and filled with artefacts from the days of the building’s habitation. Most notable is the large Anitquarium hall. Guided tours take visitors around the museum.
