The Johanniskirche, or Church of St. Johannis, in Neubrandenburg’s old town (Altstadt) is situated to the north of the market square. It was originally the church to a Franciscan friary on the site, much of which has now disappeared (apart from the refectory, which is used as a government office). The church today is head of a Protestant parish and still in regular use. It is built of smart brickwork, and is one of the only large historic buildings left in Neubrandenburg’s old town.
