St. Ignatius’ Church in Mainz was built between 1763 and 1774 on the site of a church which dated to 1297. Johann Peter Jäger was the architect of this ornate Baroque church with a sandstone exterior. It is known for being a low church, with no steeple. Inside it is ornately decorated with rococo and classical style, including stuccoes and altars of note. The crypt and its 198 tombs has been restored, though many of the original furnishings now languish in the Dom museum.
