Oktoberfest

Oktoberfest is one of the most famous festivals in Europe and takes place in the city of Munich. The festival today is 16 days of beer swilling, eating, fairground rides and entertainment. However, it originates from October 1810 when Prince (later King) Ludwig celebrated his marriage to Princess Theresa. Today the festival actually starts in the last week of September. Oktoberfest is an opportunity for brewers far and wide to bring their ales, and for visitors from all over the world to come and sample and revel in the celebrations. It is held on Theresienwiese to the west of the Innenstadt.
