The Natural History Museum in Mainz is the largest of its kind in Rhineland-Palatinate. It is located close to the centre of Mainz and opened in 1910 in this former monastery dating from 1271. On display is an array of items and exhibitions, covering the Geology, Paleontology, Mineralogy, Botany and Zoology of this particular part of Germany. Sadly much of the original collection was lost in World War 2, so much of the displays today are interactive and informative, however the collection has grown rapidly to replace what was lost.
