The natural history museum in Oldenburg (Museum für Natur und Mensch) is situated close to the castle. It has a wealth of items of historical and archaeological importance, dating as far back as prehistoric times. Many of the smaller items are presented in Victorian style curio cabinets. The most important items on display are mummies and bodies from Lower Saxony peat bogs one being 2,400 years old. Most of the displays are in German, sadly.
