The Münchner Stadtmuseum, or Munich City Museum, is a good place to get an overview of the city, from its origins in the Middle Ages, with maps, models, photographs and text charting its development. One of the main attractions in the museum is a set of wooden carvings of Morris Dancers taken from the Old Town Hall (Altes Rathaus) council chamber. They date from 1480. There are also various rooms decorated in various styles from the past, including an 18th century wine tavern interior.
