Mainz is the city in which Johannes Gutenberg was born and worked. Gutenberg was the inventor of the printing press, and thus the first printed books in the world were produced here in Mainz. His first work was a printed version of the Bible. Here at the museum, the visitor will see one of these original Gutenberg Bibles, printed around 1452, as well as learning the story about the man and his printing presses. There are many manuscripts from this era on display.
