Chiemsee Lake

Chiemsee is Bavaria’s largest lake, and one of the most scenic parts of Germany. It is also one of the highest lakes in Europe, at 518 metres (1,700ft) above sea level. Covering 80 square kilometres, the lake is a haven for water sports fans. In the summer months, the lake buzzes with people enjoying it. There are many small villages around the lake, and historic sights abound. A couple of islands can also be found in the lake – the Herreninsel is the largest, with its own palace.
