Alter Peter church is located just to the south of Munich’s Marienplatz. It is the oldest church in Munich, although now reconstructed following World War 2. The Romanesque church pre-dates Munich itself, although fires and modifications changed its appearance significantly. Visitors can climb 306 steps to the top of the tower where a balcony offers great views across Munich. Inside the church is a stunning high altar which was restored from remnants of the original, along with many old paintings.
