The large palace complex of Karlsaue in southern Kassel has large gardens, and in them a fine Orangerie building. This dates to 1702-10, and was built by Pierre Etienne Monnot. Today the Orangerie houses the Museum of Astronomy and Technology, and the Zeiss Planetarium. These are fascinating, especially for the kids, with regular shows and informative displays on the stars and technological advances. There is an entrance fee to the museum.
