The Neue Galerie in Kassel was opened in 1976. It is a branch of the State Art Gallery and is located in a fine Neo-Classical building dating from 1874. The gallery is primarily involved in displaying works from the 19th and 20th centuries. It has an excellent collection of Romantic and Impressionist paintings by artists such as Carl Schuch, Lovis Corinth and Max Slevogt. Amongst the 20th century paintings is a whole exhibition space full of German Expressionists, and another room of Joseph Beuys’ sculptures. There is an admission fee.
