The Möhnesee is a large artificial lake which runs for 10 km, a short distance to the south of Soest. It has two main villages along its north shore – Delecke and Körbecke. The lake is a very popular recreation area and is also a holiday resort for those seeking angling and watersports. Cruises run along the lake between the main villages from April to October, offering a fantastic way to see the lake. The lake is most famous for being the target of the Dambusters, who destroyed the dams which create the lake. These have now been repaired and form part of a footpath network.
