The Kochelsee is a large lake in southern Bavaria, which is twinned with the nearby lake of Walchensee. The lake is popular for recreation and water sports. It is perhaps best known for its scenery, which is Alpine, but changes as you progress around the lake. Lowland and marshland can be found at one end, and the first chain of mountains at the edge of the Alps at the other end. Around the lake is a number of settlements; Kochel is the largest and has the most attractions.
