The Wilhelmshöhe is a fantastic palace and grounds on the top of a hill of the same name in Kassel. It was built from 1781 and runs along a smart avenue atop the hill. The palace was designed by Simon Louis du Ry and Heinrich Christoph Jussow, and completed in 1801 for Elector Wilhelm. Outside is the Octagon, crowned with a statue of Hercules. The palace today houses the Gemälegalities Alte Meister - a collection of European masters’ paintings, by the likes of Rubens, Titian, Rembrandt Durer and Poussin. The grounds are also worth looking at, with great views and relaxing walks.
