Kochel am See’s main visitor attraction after the lake is the Franz Marc Museum. Marc was a painter who lived in the town from 1908 to 1916, choosing the rural life over city life. His works feature famous paintings of animals such as horses. Sadly Marc’s life was cut short when he was killed in World War I action. aged 36. This museum displays many of his works, and those of other members of the Der Blaue Reiter. Closed in winter.
