The Electors’ Palace, more commonly known as the Kurfürstliches Schloss, in Koblenz was built from 1771, designed by Michael d’Ixnard. It was completed in 1786. The grand Neo-Classical building was occupied at first by the last of Trier’s electors, Clemens Wenzeslaus von Sachsen. Future Emperor Wilhelm I also lived here, between 1850 and 1857. In World War 2 the palace was damaged, but later reconstructed to its original design. It is not open to the public, as it still serves a role with the authorities. However, various concerts are held here and in the grounds each year. See local listings for more information.
