The Deutsches Eck in Koblenz is the spot at which the River Mosel flows into the River Rhine – the very reason for the existence of Koblenz. Directly translated, Deutsches Eck means German Corner. Here a giant statue of Emperor Wilhelm I sits astride his horse on a huge plinth, looking out to the river. A pleasant area of walkway, flanked by various flags, leads out in front of the statue, which was erected in 1879, but destroyed in World War 2. It wasn’t until 1993 that the replacement was erected.
