The Wilhelm Busch Museum in Hannover was opened in 1937 to commemorate the famous cartoonist from the 19th century. The original building was damaged beyond repair during World War 2, however the current building was made available in 1949 to house the collection, which had been saved. Visitors to the museum will see the art of Busch, with over 300 oil paintings, 1200 sketches and drawings, and 49 cartoon stories. A collection of his letters and poems is also on display, and a library archive. The museum also holds regular exhibitions of cartoon collections and works and the collection is always growing.
