The Tram and Tramway Museum in Hannover is situated on the site of a former potash mine. This museum is increasingly popular and covers the use of trams as a form of public transport. Existing tracks and buildings of the former mine are used to show over 50 trams of different ages and styles. Many of them can even be ridden by visitors. The museum has been proactive in restoring trams in its collection to working order. The history of the tram is shown in many old photographs and explained in texts. There is also a shop and cafe on site.
