The Summer Palace (Sommerpalais) in Greiz is a summer residence built by the Reuss family of the region from 1779. It is a large Neoclassical manor house, which was inspired by French styles and Rococo. Visitors can look around the restored rooms. Important features are the library, with books once owned by the Reuss family. There are also collections of French Enlightenment works, and 18th century British satirical cartoons. There are other GDR inspired satirical cartoon collections on the top floor. The impressive Gartensaal is used for exhibitions – most notably the national festival for cartoons, caricatures and satirical art every three years.
