The State Opera House in Hannover is one of the most impressive architectural sights in the city. It was built from 1847-52 by George Ludwig Friedrich Laves, opening with a performance of Le Figaro on 5 September 1852. The Neo-Classical building has a façade of portico columns. Sadly it was almost completely destroyed in a bombing raid in June 1943. Rebuilding was commenced swiftly after the war, also remodelling the interior, and the first performance in November 1950. Today visitors can take in opera, ballet, music concerts and plays. Details can be found on the website or in listings around the city.
