St. Catherine’s Church (or Katharinenkirche) is one of the five main churches of central Hamburg. Construction on the Gothic church began in the 13th century, with its iconic 115 metre spire added. Building continued to the 17th century, with Baroque features added, and later a period of restoration was completed after damage in World War 2. This church is the oldest preserved building in Hamburg. It was traditionally the main church for seamen. Inside, the church is a three-nave structure
