Europe’s largest set of man-made caves can be found in Homburg. They were originally part of the Hohenburg Castle which occupied the site, and was destroyed in 1714. The caves were then forgotten, until they were rediscovered in 1930. Stretching kilometres in length, and 12 storeys deep, the caves are a fascinating underground world. Used as shelters in World War 2, today they can be seen as part of a guided tour along specially laid paths. They are open most of the year.
