The Royal Hunting Lodge at Springe is located in the Saupark 25km south west of Hannover. A hunting lodge has existed here since the 15th century. In 1866 the Kingdom of Hannover became a Prussian province. The hunting lodge was used by royalty for hunting boars and other wild animals. The lodge and its buildings were extended in 1875 and 1912. The forest commision took over control in 1965 and has housed the Museum for Nature Hunting Culture here ever since. There are many paintings and displays on hunting history.
