The Protestant Paulskirche (St. Paul’s Church) in the centre of Frankfurt is a distinctive building with a tower and large round hall in a Neo-Classical style. The church was built between 1786 and 1833. Paulskirche was used as the meeting place for the Frankfurt Parliament in the German revolution of 1848, and as the German National Assembly office for working on their constitution. The building is no longer used as a church, but as an event venue for assemblies, awards and conferences. It was heavily damaged in World War 2, but the first of the inner city buildings to be restored, and re-opened on the 100th anniversary of the Frankfurt Parliament. In 1963, John F. Kennedy gave a speech here.
