The Old Town Hall (Altes Rathaus) in Hannover was built from 1410 over a number of stages on Schmiedestrasse and the foundations of the old trade hall on Koeblinger Strasse. Because of the different stages, part of the building was built in Italian Romanesque style and part in neo-Gothic. The building was saved from demolition in 1844, and was in fact renovated back to its 1500s style, with gables and coats of arms. It was subsequently restored after heavy World War 2 damage. Visitors to the Old Town Hall will be able to find out plenty of historical information about the city in its archives and tourist information.
