Halle / Saale was once a great salt producing city of Germany. A large factory existed on the island between two streams of the Saale river, just outside the old town. Today this factory is a technical museum telling the history of the salt industry here, as well as demonstrating the panning and production processes to produce the salt. As an added bonus, visitors can purchase a bag of salt in the souvenir shop which was produced on the site. There is an admission fee.
