The Oberes Schloss is Greiz sits at the top of the Schlossberg hill overlooking the town. The castle is the oldest surviving building in the town, dating from the 13th century. Heinrich II of Plauen founded the residence and lived here with his Russian princess wife. The building has undergone many alterations, notable in the various architectural styles present, including Baroque, Renaissance and Rococo. Parts of the castle have been used as private houses for the past 200 years or so. Guided tours are available around the building, including the Schlossturm tower with its fantastic views.
